A brief history of a decade of tango in Lithuania

Barely a decade has passed since the founding of the Academy of Tango and the Tango quartet foundation "Tanguedia", which is today known as the tango 4.
In April 1999 Eduardo Gimenez, a newcomer from Uruguay, received a proposition from the plastic artist Elvira ... ... .. to teach tango in his gallery "Kaire disincentives" at 3 Latako Street in Vilnius.
Attending the first class were artists, actors, painters, and musicians one of which was Kristina Zebruskaite, who was then an accordion student at the Academy of Music in Vilnius.
In late May the Academy of tango will make its first appearance in the gallery "Tango-Desin Kaire", forming a solid group of dancing and tango enthusiasts.
Only one thing is missing; we must create a group that can play tango music. Eduardo and Kristina had some suggestions for the group: Kristina said "I have the musicians at the Academy," and Eduardo said "I have sheet music and CDs I brought from Argentina and Urugauy." Thus it was that early in August 1999 the quartet of traditional tango "Tanguedia" was formed. The quartet will make its debut at the festival "The days of Vilnius" which will take place in the Vilnius Town Hall Square.
Then they made performances in many  bars and restaurants around Vilnius, with the highlight being a concert at the legendary restaurant milonga "Neringa" on Gedimino Avenue, and a long cycle of concerts at the former restaurant Zaltvyksle Pilis which will take place on the street. Every Sunday enthusiasts will come together to listen and dance tango tango argentino.
We have also recorded an album called "the best songs of tango," which was an introduction to recording for Kristina with her debut being, "The trip to the south of the cow."
At an international level the highest peak of the "quartet" tanguedia was at the international Astor Piazzolla Contest in the city of Udine, Italy, in October 2002. Ahi, Tanguedia has already been performed by the current "Tango 4", with Virutė . Bagdonienė.. ... ... .. on viola, Feliksas .. Zakrevskij. ... .... on piano, Donatas . Bagurskas.. ... ... ... on bass, Kristina ... ... .... and Eduardo Gimenez on accordion and vocals. Tanguedia gained a respectful sixth place among thirty groups from around the world, including many from Argentina. Eduardo also won first place as a singer, for his performance of "Balada para un loco" by Piazzolla and Ferrer. Following his performance Eduardo will now be the opening act in the international tango festival in Europe, where he will participate in the 3 chances Balkans Festival in Belgrade, Serbia. We have also received invitations to festivals in Montenegro and Hungary.
In 2004 "Tanguedia" reformed with the integration of soloist Brigita Bublyte and then became "Tango 4", with a large and successful artistic career both locally and internationally. Currently, soloist highlights include singer Ieva Prudnikovayte.
In March 2007 Eduardo Gimenez along with accordionist Andrius Balachovicius founded the quartet tango electronico Tango Cats craendo, something which was unprecedented in the sphere of tango in the Baltic countries. The quartet performs throughout the Baltic countries and Russia, and is the vanguard of electronic tango in this region.
La Academia del Tango, boasts prolifernado new tango enthusiasts, who promote festivals and seminars. In January 2002 for the first time in the history of tango in Lithuania the "Drama Theatre" gave two presentations and a full theatre at the third "Vilnius Town Hall", where the Academy comes from Paris to "trup Le fleux aus vent" with a sataff of 14 dancers, following the recommendation of dancer, Depuraite Goda, a former student of Eduardo.
From this event there have been
several more, until the first tango festival in the Baltic countries in May 2006 in Vilnius Philharmonic, where in two consecutive days there was a full presence of groups of traditional tango, techno, dancers and choirs from different parts of the world. Considering this was the first festival it was almost unsurpassable for sheer variety, quality and the number of participants, with music from groups such as "The Armored Rosa" Mendoza, Argentina, "Duo trip" of Buenos Aires, Argentina, "Red Tango" (Argentina-Italy), "Tango 4" (Lithuania ); choruses from "brevis" and "Jauna Muzika" (Lithuania); dancers Pizauro Gaia and Leandro Furlan (Argentina-Lithuania), and Fabiana Carlos (Argentina), Irmantas Bacelis and Kristina (Lithuania); and Eduardo, Urbietyte, Brigita and Gimenez (Lithuania-Uruguay).
With the seed planted by the Academy of Tango in Lithaunia, periodicamenete have been enthusiastic teachers and communicators for tango dancers such as Irmantas Bacelis with "Vilniaus Kluba, Brigita Urbietyte, Goda Depurayte, Mika ... ... ... until in 2006 when the association of tango was founded in Lithuania, where tanguista of different styles and from different schools have come together to continue to proliferate tango for hundreds of fans by creating and fostering an earnest and friendly community that constantly promotes tango festivals and seminars throughout Lithuania, with teachers from around the world in attendance.
Currently, the Academy of tango continues to collaborate in the formation and growth of tango musicians and dancers, while trying to burn a flame of passion and love for tango.
The seeds have been planted and have already shown their first positive results; now we have to grow and water the seeds with love and attention in order to achieve a real garden full of many different colors and scents which will help to inspire our daily lives—with a smile and a fraternal embrace.
